The German artist Hilla Rebay was the first director of the Museum of Non-Objective Painting, then to become the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Besides supporting non-objective painting, the abstract and non-objective avant-garde film was one of her most important concerns. Three filmmakers gave the decisive impetus for Rebay’s concept of a planned film center in the museum: Hans Richter, Oskar Fischinger and Norman McLaren. Hilla Rebay organized Film Concerts at the Museum of Non-Objective Painting, in which works of these and other artists were shown.
