“Striking: The Right to Strike/Striking the Right” lecture by Nicholas Mirzoeff
"The Chinese Origins of Cai Guo-Qiang`s Art" lecture by Prof. Dr. Zhu Qingsheng
Nicholas Mirzoeff, Department of Art and Art Professions, Steinhardt School, New York University, and Zhu Qingsheng, Professor of Art History at the University of Beijing and Heidelberg, present the work of Cai Guo-Qiang. The two catalog authors have been following the development of the multimedia artist for several years and are well-versed experts on the Chinese art scene. One Lecture will take place in English.

21.09.2006 - “Contemporary Chinese Art – 3 Generations”, lecture by Alexander Ochs, 7:00 p.m.
Since 1997 Alexander Ochs has been bringing contemporary artists from Eastern Asia to China and Europe. His internationally operating program gallery, Alexander Ochs Galleries Berlin/Beijing, has since then become the number one address in Europe for contemporary Asian art. In his lecture, Alexander Ochs sheds light on the development of China’s contemporary art scene.
27.08.2006 - Cai Guo-Qiang: Art in the Twenty-First Century, Film, 7:00 p.m.
As part of the Emmy-nominated Art21 series of the American television station, PBS, the artist portrait of Cai Guo-Qiang produced last year gives insights into the working method and artistic approach of the Chinese artist. Subtitled ‘Power’, the documentary shows Cai Guo-Qiang speaking about his special affinity to gunpowder and the power of destruction. Afterwards selected explosion projects from the past years will be shown.

Of Wolves and Gunpowder

In his works, the Chinese artist integrates numerous narratives and traditions. In Berlin, they include impressive fabric wolves that appear to chase through the room in a pack. Huge wall pictures with mysterious signs supplement the ensemble. We would like to make up a story about these things, tell it, and then think about how we can make it come alive on paper.
