More than perhaps any other German collection of contemporary art, the Grässlin family collection stands out through its special ties to the artists they collect. Thus, the collections history is not only marked by its commitment to Kippenbergers work, but also by a personal relationship to the artist.

This year, Martin Kippenberger would have turned fifty. In Germany, three large exhibitions at once are dedicated to the various aspects of his work. Along with Candida Höfer, he will be representing German art at the Venice Biennale. In an interview, the Frankfurt gallery dealer Bärbel Grässlin talks about the "Kippenberger Phenomenon."
